Improvements and what to look out for in 2023

During 2022 there was a lot of disruption in logistics soaring fuel prices, Royal Mail Strikes and war in Kyiv are some of the reasons but there were many other disruptions to supply chains in 2022. So far 2023 fuel prices seem to be coming back down again and inventory increasing which in turn will benefit eCommerce and logistical barriers faced compares to the previous year.

Despite the challenges in 2022 there was still growth in the eCommerce sector as it seems to do year on year.  eCommerce is one of the few sectors that continues to grow and Logistics plays a key role in this sector so finding new ways of working around various disruptions is key to continue to operate efficiently.  MCF had to do this throughout various stages in 2022, seeking to find quick and effective alternatives to deliver tens of thousands products to the end customer.  In fact it was a record breaking year for MCF as nearly 1 million parcels were shipped out the their premises despite the many disruptions throughout the previous year.  So what does 2023 bring.

Each year new technology comes along and changes the world and it’s usually for the better.

Or is it ?  This blog highlights the new things coming and what to look out for in logistics all designed to enhance this sector for the better through new and smart technological advances.

Increased Data Analytics

Why is this important you may ask?  This is because logistics companies heavily rely on vast amount of data they collect. This allows companies to look at patterns, trends and allows them to make to correct decisions on improving operations,

Autonomous Vehicles

The future really has arrived autonomous vehicles have arrived and have many advantages over recent transportation.   These advantages consists of increased safety on the roads, always a good thing.  The vehicles are less likely to crash as they will make a lot less errors in comparison to humans so will decrease accidents and at the same time reduce traffic congestion.  It also removes human behaviour as well as removing drivers salaries therefore some companies are looking more towards this as the asset may save time and money in the long term.

Blockchain technology in business

What is a blockchain I hear you ask ?  a blockchain is the foundation for immutable ledgers, or records of transactions that cannot be altered, deleted, or destroyed. This is why blockchains are also known as a DLT which is distributed ledger technology.  Why is it important I hear you ask?  Businesses run on information so the faster and more accurate it is the more it beneficial it is. Blockchain can track orders, payments, accounts, production as well as many other fantastic features. It provides immediate shared information which is transparent and stored on an immutable ledger that only authorised network members can access. Because of this members share best practises as well as gaining access to view end to end transactions thus gibing you more belief as well as opportunity and improved efficiencies.

Increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI)

This is not new to 2023 but technologies have already started to disrupt the industry. The use for AI will only continue to grow over time as it dramatically assists companies with resources, productivity which in turn optimises and improves operations, For these reasons expect to see more use of this in 2023 and beyond.

Green Initiatives

Due to the increasing damage that is taking place on our wonderful planet Earth, more and more companies are going green. As not only does it help the environment but it can also save money at the same time so a win-win situation.

Increasing growth of Cobots (collaborative robots)

Yes it sounds like a Science fiction movie but robots are starting to continue to replace humans which I believe is sad to see. However the reasons for this are due to the fact Cobots can work quicker and more accurately which speeds processes up, which in turn reduces costs and improves quality control at the same time.

MCF are continuing to seek opportunities to evolve along with new technological initiatives in order to stay ahead of the game and gain an advantage over our competitors in order to become one of the leading fulfilment and 3PL providers in the UK.
