How to Boost Sales During the Summer Period
Good day sunshine! The weather is perking up now that Summer is officially here! What better way to start the season by planning out your barbeques and the days spent out in the garden? How about those seasonal items you’re selling in your store, are they flying off the shelves yet?
During the summer period, we can see a dramatic increase in sales for specific products and naturally, it’s a given that a boost of sales pop up during the hotter days too.
So what exactly is it about the British weather that can encourage online sales?
We’ll be going into what purchases customers make as well as what you can do to boost sales during the summer period!
Get into the Summer vibes!
Emphasise your website to reflect the weather, the anticipated temperatures and the happy memories that people make during one of the most favourable seasons of the year! Pick some colour schemes that might escalate your presentation but also stays true to your brand, have some of your best sellers towards the front and don’t forget to blend in any product that may fit the range next to them. This will really bring out the effort you put into your business and towards the customer’s perspective also. Whack some smiley faces with sunglasses on your email responses too, keep the flow consecutive!
Summer Products
The first obvious answer that comes to mind is anything relating to the outdoors. A standard pick is to invest in gardening products, patio furniture/décor and even some tools for DIY. It’s a safe decision to make as there are always people willing to dedicate their time towards making sure their gardens are all prepped for the summertime, especially if the items are released in the spring. What is one thing that most of the public anticipate the most during the better weather? Barbeques!
People are at their most adventurous on the cuisine front during the heatwaves and late sunsets. One of our clients sells barbeques during the start of the season and it vastly becomes one of their easy top selling products. It’s only end of June and thousands of barbeques have already been ordered online and delivered to the customers.
Another one of our best sellers are bird food, not only purchased by the avid bird watchers but also by 64% of British households across rural/urban areas. We’ve seen that all year round this tends to be a competitive selling product against all seasonal items we despatch from our pick and pack warehouse. Although this is sold all year round people spend most time in their gardens during the summer month so like to spend time with wildlife by feeding the birds. Afterall they may provide some companionship to many people who are on their own or just provide extra entertainment watching the birds enjoying your garden as much as you do.
Giveaways and competitions
This can be one of the most underestimated methods of selling as people assume the fact that as it doesn’t directly lead to sales, it won’t bode well for business. This in fact is not true.
Interaction on your socials (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook & YouTube, etc) will more than likely cause more interaction for your website. The rules for giveaways and competitions can be pretty standard, you encourage post interactions such as sharing to their friends, commenting and following the page, all of which commit to broadcasting your business to people who may not have come across your products yet or perhaps to an individual that might be searching for items that you sell.
Make it fun, get people to talk about their favourite summer activities or one of the best summer memories they’ve had with friends or family. This promotes communications from your customers, and it can give you a bigger picture of what your customer base likes, all the while sending replies that will gain more respect from the customer as you have taken the time to respond to them. What you choose for the prize is up to you, get that ball rolling whilst the sun is shining!
Securing Progress
You may not have any of the top summer products to sell but that doesn’t mean you cannot obtain a decent seasonal growth. During the August time, we’ll see customers taking time off while their children have their summer holidays and idle time will always be dedicated to browsing online even if it’s not to make a final purchase. It’s a prime opportunity to consider bundling items, offering sales on the static items that haven’t been sold for a while. Prioritize getting your slow selling products on sale and offer them a bargain they can’t refuse, especially on websites such as Amazon where your Seller Fulfilled Prime can really benefit from more searches due to the amount of people who buy on the Amazon selling platform!
In our eCommerce fulfilment warehouse, we want to be sure that our client’s products are always moving, it’s no good if the items sit to collect dust. Where possible we want to encourage and support our client’s opportunities to push out offers/deals/discounts that can be applicable to the items that just won’t budge.
Remember there is a limited window of opportunity to sell seasonal products before the seasons change. Afterall it is difficult to sell a children’s swimming pool in the middle of winter for obvious reasons, so capitalising on the sales at the right time is key.
